Childhood piggy banks can turn out to be a treasure trove in adulthood. When did you first start saving coins in your piggy bank? While playing with toys and cars, did you ever wonder how much money you could save for your future needs if you started saving instead of buying useless things in childhood?
Recently, I heard about an overwhelming incident. I thought to share it with my readers, as it can warm your hearts too.
A few days before my mentor, Suraj Sir told me about his two little nephews. He asked, "Reena, did you ever keep a piggy bank?" I replied with a no and asked him, "Why Sir?"
He said one day two of my nephews were talking and I overheard them. Younger Rahul is in 3rd standard and older Deepak is in 8th.
Deepak was very excitedly talking about the latest version of the Gaming Laptop and Rahul was listening to him very curiously. Suraj Sir interrupted their conversation and asked both of them. " How much pocket money do you both get each month; how much money do you save from that..??"
Deepak, without thinking much told me." Uncle, I am a kid. Why should I believe in savings from now?? Right now I depend on my parents, who fulfill all my needs and give me whatever I ask for. When I grow up, I'll think of saving and all." Meanwhile, in conversation, Sir observed Rahul’s facial expression, he was about to cry but trying hard to hold the tears.
So he interrupted the conversation with Deepak and turned to Rahul and ask about his pocket money. Rahul replied, " Uncle, My father gives me 105 rupees as my pocket money. I love animals, so I spend 25 rs feeding some of them and put 80 rs in my piggy bank every month to save for my future. So that when I am in 8th standard and need a laptop, I will buy it from my savings without troubling my parents”.
He added," I saw my father struggling with financial challenges. Now he is the only parent who earns, I can't earn at this age, but I can save something to lessen his burden."
After the whole conversation, I got shocked to see Rahul’s maturity and upbringing. I asked Suraj Sir, “why was he about to cry?” So he told me that her mother recently passed away and he understood the importance of saving from an earlier age.
I might not be able to keep a piggy bank now. But I am going to teach every kid in my family to protect themself from future uncertainties. Keeping a piggy bank in childhood can be a treasure trove in the future. Savings from an early age is very useful for us.
This story is worth sharing. Thank you, Suraj Sir, for showing us the value and importance of developing a saving habit in childhood. I hope a lot of people will learn something from this.
